Mobility Worldwide (formally known as Personal Energy Transportation (PET) ), is a ministry whose goal is to bring “The Gift of Mobility” to disabled people in developing countries. Mobility Worldwide was started in 1994 by a missionary, Rev. Larry Hills and a pastor, Rev. Mel West. Since then, 25 building sites in the United States and 1 in Zambia have formed, including the San Antonio, Texas site that opened in 2004. (See HISTORY for a detailed history of Mobility Worldwide at their website.)
The San Antonio shop began building Mobility Cart parts for affiliate but soon developed our own operation in the backyard workshop of a dedicated volunteer. We quickly outgrew that shop and then another, and for several years we were building Mobility Carts in a small airport hangar in San Geronimo. On May 23, 2010, we had a ribbon-rutting ceremony at our current manufacturing site located at 219 E. Nakoma, near the San Antonio Airport. We were pleased that a representative from Texas State Senator Patricia Van de Putte’s office was present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony and presented us with a Certificate of Congratulations from Senator Van de Putte for the work we are doing “for giving dignity, hope and mobility to millions in need.”
