In lieu of a paper newsletter, this page will serve as a hub for uplifting stories, providing a closer look at the impact of the organization’s work and the individuals who benefit from its mission. It will highlight both the behind-the-scenes efforts and the powerful transformations experienced by recipients worldwide.
Mobility Worldwide San Antonio is entering an exciting new chapter — one that will dramatically expand our ability to restore dignity, independence, and mobility to people around the world.
For years, our dedicated volunteers have faithfully built life-changing mobility carts in our current 2,000 square foot shop. Through countless volunteer hours, generous donations, and unwavering community support, we have impacted hundreds of lives by providing hand-powered mobility carts to individuals who otherwise would have no means of independent movement.
Today, the need is greater than ever.
To meet that growing demand, Mobility Worldwide San Antonio has launched a capital campaign to raise $900,000 toward the purchase and expansion of a permanent facility that will allow us to double our operational space from 2,000 square feet to 4,000 square feet.
This expansion is about far more than buildings and square footage. It is about increasing hope, opportunity, and mobility for people who desperately need it.

Most importantly, this expansion will allow Mobility Worldwide San Antonio to dramatically increase annual production goals to 300 mobility carts per year — bringing the gift of mobility to hundreds more recipients worldwide.
As part of this growth, shop operations are also increasing significantly. What was once a 2–3 day per week operation is growing into a 4–5 day per week production schedule, allowing more volunteers to serve and more carts to be built than ever before.
This campaign represents an investment in both immediate impact and long-term sustainability. Every additional cart built means another child able to attend school independently, another parent able to work, another individual restored to community life with dignity and freedom.
The ripple effect of mobility reaches far beyond transportation. It changes families, communities, and futures.

Recently, our partners at Sistema DIF Nuevo Laredo presented a Mobility Worldwide cart to Gilberto Zapata, 54, giving him greater independence, safety, and the freedom to move with dignity.
The presentation was led by Claudette Canturosas, President of the DIF Nuevo Laredo Board, alongside Carmenlilia Hinojosa and Claudette Salinas of the DIF Volunteer Team. Their compassion and commitment to serving their community continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing mobility challenges.
We are grateful for our partnership with Sistema DIF Nuevo Laredo, whose dedicated volunteers ensure these mobility carts reach individuals who need them most. Together, we are restoring independence, creating opportunity, and sharing hope—one mobility cart at a time.
Every cart built by our volunteers in San Antonio represents more than steel, wood, and wheels. It represents freedom, dignity, and the kindness of people working together across borders to transform lives.

Mobility Worldwide San Antonio is pleased to welcome Jerry Hawkins as the newest member of our Board of Directors. While Jerry may be new to the board, he certainly isn’t new to serving others—or to getting his hands dirty in the shop!
A lifelong San Antonio resident, Jerry graduated from The University of Texas at Austin School of Business in 1971. He went on to own and operate J.L. Hawkins Fine Custom Homes, building homes throughout north San Antonio for more than 50 years. That lifetime of construction knowledge, problem-solving and hands-on experience made Jerry a natural fit at Mobility Worldwide.
From the time he began volunteering in our shop, Jerry jumped right in. He quickly became proficient in multiple areas of cart construction and, in a remarkably short time, was able to step into a leadership role. Just as importantly, Jerry has a wonderful ability to work with our younger volunteers. He is patient, encouraging, willing to teach and always ready with a good sense of humor—qualities that make him an especially valuable mentor in the shop.
But perhaps what makes Jerry such a special addition to our board is the heart behind his service.
Jerry has experienced tremendous personal loss in recent years, including the deaths of his wife of 46 years and his daughter. Yet through those difficult seasons, his deep faith and desire to serve others have remained central to his life. Rather than allowing loss to define him, Jerry continues to pour his time, talents and compassion into helping others. In addition to Mobility Worldwide, he volunteers with the Coker Methodist Food Pantry, living out his faith through service in his community.
When he isn’t volunteering, Jerry can often be found at the gym or tackling a home improvement project. He enjoys traveling with his family and is the proud grandfather of a granddaughter and grandson. And if you really want to get Jerry talking, ask him about cars! A self-proclaimed classic car, muscle car and late-model performance car enthusiast, Jerry especially enjoys getting out on the road in his Corvette.
At Mobility Worldwide, we believe some of the best leaders are those who lead by serving alongside others. Jerry has already demonstrated that kind of leadership in our shop. He brings decades of knowledge and experience, a tremendous heart for people, a gift for working with volunteers of all ages and a genuine commitment to our mission of providing mobility to those in need.

This summer, Mobility Worldwide San Antonio is launching a special volunteer challenge designed to grow our mission, expand our volunteer family, and prepare for one of our biggest events of the year.
From June through August, we are challenging every current volunteer to bring at least one new person to the shop to experience the mission firsthand.
Our goal is simple:
Fill the shop with new hands, new hearts, and new energy as we prepare inventory for a major cart assembly event this September.
Every mobility cart begins with volunteers willing to show up, learn a skill, and serve others. Many people assume they need special experience to help in the shop — but the truth is, there is a place for everyone. From sanding and drilling to assembly, organization, painting, and material prep, volunteers of all ages and skill levels can make a meaningful contribution.
And when someone new walks through our doors, something powerful happens.
They begin to understand that these carts are not just projects. They are life-changing gifts of mobility for children and adults around the world who otherwise have no means of independent movement.
This challenge is especially important because of the growing vision of “youth serving youth.” We want young people, families, coworkers, students, Scout troops, church groups, and friends to discover how their time and talents can directly impact another person’s life.
One volunteer can build a cart.
One new volunteer can grow a movement.
By increasing volunteer participation throughout the summer, we can dramatically increase production, strengthen inventory, and prepare for an incredible September build event that will place even more carts into the hands of those who need them most.

Mobility Worldwide San Antonio is pleased to announce that Joslyn Campbell has stepped into the role of Vice President of the Board of Directors, after serving as Board Secretary since January 2018.
For Joslyn, Mobility Worldwide has never been simply another organization to serve. It has become a family commitment, a personal passion, and an important part of her life for many years.
Joslyn was first introduced to the mission through her father, Tom Martin, longtime President of Mobility Worldwide San Antonio. What began as a connection through family quickly grew into a commitment of her own. Since joining the board in 2018, she has become increasingly involved in the organization’s communications, fundraising, community outreach, volunteer engagement and efforts to introduce a new generation of young people to service.
That focus on youth is especially meaningful to Joslyn. She has seen firsthand how Mobility Worldwide can change lives on both sides of the cart. Her own children have grown up volunteering with the organization, and she is passionate about giving other young people opportunities to work alongside experienced volunteers, learn practical hands-on skills and discover the value of serving others.
“We certainly build mobility carts, but I think what happens inside our shop goes far beyond what we ship out the door,” Campbell said. “We give someone across the world the gift of mobility, while here at home we have an opportunity to teach young people skills, compassion, confidence and the importance of serving others. I love that both can happen in the same place.”
Joslyn brings a diverse professional background to her new leadership role. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Southwest Texas State University and spent six years with North East Independent School District. Her certifications include Early Childhood Education, Dance, Theater and Speech Communications, and she has spent four decades involved in the performing arts.
She is also a nationally certified group fitness instructor and personal trainer and the owner of Jazzy J’s Dance & Fitness. Since 2010, she has worked as a Realtor with Suburban Spaces Real Estate Group. Across each of those roles runs a common thread: bringing people together, communicating with others and building community.
Her commitment to service extends beyond Mobility Worldwide. She has been active at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, including previously serving as a catechist for elementary and middle school faith formation.
As Vice President, Joslyn moves into the position at an especially exciting time for Mobility Worldwide San Antonio. With plans for an expanded workshop, increased production, greater community involvement and a goal of producing 300 mobility carts annually, the organization is preparing for significant growth.
Joslyn hopes to help that growth extend beyond the number of carts produced. She wants more people throughout San Antonio to know the Mobility Worldwide story, more businesses and community organizations to become partners, and more families and young people to discover the joy of serving together.
For Joslyn, however, the heart of the mission remains the individual waiting somewhere in the world for something most of us take for granted—the ability to move independently.
“I continue to be inspired by the ripple effect of what happens here,” Campbell said. “One cart can completely change the life of its recipient, but building that cart also changes the people who give their time to make it possible. That’s what makes this organization so special.”

Our ambitious goal is to assemble 50 mobility carts in a single day as volunteers come together to help deliver the gift of mobility to individuals around the world.
This exciting event will serve as the grand finale of our summer “Bring a Friend” Volunteer Challenge, which has focused on introducing new volunteers, families, youth, community groups, and corporate teams to the mission of Mobility Worldwide San Antonio.
The Big Build will be an incredible opportunity for experienced volunteers and first-time participants alike to work side-by-side in a high-energy atmosphere of teamwork, service, and community impact. Every cart assembled represents independence, dignity, and opportunity for someone who otherwise has limited or no mobility.
Whether you are skilled with tools or simply willing to lend a hand, there will be opportunities for everyone to participate.
